Eye Care Facts
Not all skin is created equal. For example, the skin of the soles is thick and hard, the skin of the scalp has embedded hair follicles, and the skin of the nose and cheeks tends to have particularly active sebaceous glands. The skin around the eye also has its own special traits..
- It has virtually no sebaceous glands, which makes it highly prone to dryness.
- It is much thinner and more sensitive than other facial skin.
- It overlies a particularly dense capillary network and has minimal fat padding, which makes the eye area prone to puffiness.
- It is stressed by frequent eye movements and squinting.
Where Aging Occurs
The first place where signs of aging appear on the face. The faces of twenty five and thirty five year old people usually differ mainly in the eye area. Thirty five year olds are a lot more likely to have fine lines and bags under the eyes; some will even have crow’s feet. Not surprisingly, when we try to estimate someone’s age, the appearance of the eye area is always one of the key factors. Therefore, if you want to keep your patients looking young as long as possible you need to neutralize a natural tendency of the skin in the eye area to age faster than the rest of their face.
Cleanser, Creams and Serums
Make sure your patients are always using a non-irritating gentle cleanser when cleaning the sensitive area around your eyes.
Moisturizing is particularly important for the eye area skin, as we do not have many sebaceous glands there. Choose an eye cream for you patients with peptides, antioxidants and hyaluronic acid. Have them apply skin care products very gently in the eye area, try not to pull the skin when applying product, instead dab it lightly with your fingertip.
You can suggest the use of Retin-A close to the eye area, as long as it is not to irritating. Suggest to start every 3rd night to every other night and build up the tolerance. Non-irritating wrinkles fighters: less proven but also less risky.
If your patients have a tendency to get water accumulation in the eye area a.k.a. morning puffiness and/or dark circles, I would have them avoid eating salty food and drink a lot of water. An eye cream can help to take care of that problem. Key ingredients to reduce puffiness include caffeine, hyaluronic acid and bisabolol. This powerful combination of energizers, nourishes and moisturizers helps provide your eyes with a younger, fresher outlook!
Botox and Dermal Fillers
If your patients have crow’s feet, Botox might be the solution for you. If your crow’s feet are deeper, dermal filler in combination with Botox will probably be in your best interest. The dermal filler will fill out the remaining lines after Botox has relaxed the muscles.
Laser Treatments to Help with your Patients Eye Area:
Exilis
The advanced Exilis Elite is a device that uses focused ultrasonic waves and energy that is delivered to specific depths below the skin to melt fat and tighten skin. This focused energy causes fat cells to shrink and contracts the skin tissue, stimulating new collagen production in the process. Exilis reduces the undesirable fatty deposits under your eye and tightens the skin and reduces your wrinkles. The results speak for themselves, patients have seen dramatic facial rejuvenation in 4 – 6 sessions, and this without surgery or anesthetic. There is no downtime with Exilis, so you can do their treatments on your lunch break.
Refirme
This latest skin tightening laser, ReFirme, uses a combination of technology seen in Thermage (radio-frequency) and Titan (infrared light). The laser gradually heats the dermis to create a thermal response, stimulating long term collagen production, reducing wrinkles and sagging skin. Tighter, firmer skin is seen within minutes of the treatment. This easy, non-surgical treatment is another way to fight gravity and tighten skin around your patients eyes. Laser skin tightening is quick, offers no downtime and has minimal discomfort!
Most people notice improvement immediately. Over the course of 3 to 5 laser skin tightening treatment sessions, their wrinkles will become much less visible and their skin will become smoother, tighter and more elastic.
